Nunnington Bash raises cash for Yorkshire Air Ambulance
A BIT of a bash has raised more than £8,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
The annual Nunnington Bash, which started as a 60th birthday celebration for one of the villagers, has grown into a public event raising thousands of pounds for the charity.
Held at Nunnington cricket field, the event included live music, tombola, hog roast, Pimms tent and bar and stalls.
Andrea Wood, secretary of Nunnington Village Hall committee which organises the event, said a cheque was presented to Bob Smailes of Yorkshire Air Ambulance for £7,200.
“With some monies still to be collected and Barclays Bank donating a minimum of £750 via their charity ‘Match’ scheme, this makes the total raised from the bash this year in excess of £8,000,” she said.
“The Bash also donated £1,000 to the Nunnington Village Hall fund for maintenance and improvements.”
Andrea said the grand total raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance through the Bash was now more than £20,000.
“A lot of hard work by chairman Stephen Rooke and the village hall committee made for a tremendous evening of music and entertainment,” she said.
“There was an exceptional turn out from villagers and friends, some of whom camped on the site for the weekend, and there are big plans for next year’s event already.
“All on the village hall committee would like to thank all the local businesses who supported the event, the musicians who made it swing, and the Helmsley young farmers for all their help with running the bar.”
