Julie and Joe Putniorzto to celebrate diamond wedding anniversary
HE proposed to her in a romantic love letter and 60 years later they insist the key to a happy marriage is simply continuing to love each other.
Julie Putniorz, 85, and her husband Joe, 87, will celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary tomorrow (Thursday) at their home in Pickering alongside family and friends.
Their daughter, Jenny, 51, said: “The secret to their long and happy marriage is quite simply that they love each other.”
The couple met in Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, after Joe, who had been serving in the Polish Army, arrived in England in 1946. Julie had been working in Poland but moved to the UK a year after Joe. The pair married in Luton in 1953.
Before moving to Pickering in 1976 to retire, Joe worked for British Rail and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as a track supervisor for 20 years before retiring at the age of 70. Julie worked the twilight shift at McKechnies on the factory floor for 14 years before she decided to retire.
The couple have another daughter, Lilya, 65, and a son, Edward, 55. Their other son, Joe, recently passed away. They also have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Jenny said: “Their happy memories and fun times revolve around visiting Joe’s family on the farm in Czechoslovakia.
“Christmas time was particularly special as it was the only time the whole family were able to get together.”
