Youngsters get their skates on for fundraiser
7:00am Wednesday 11th September 2013 in News
A GROUP of youngsters have completed a 24-hour “skateathon”
to raise funds to buy new equipment for Norton skate park.
About 25 members of the Skate Park Users’ Group took part in the fundraiser from 2pm last Wednesday to 2pm the following day.
Cameron Brady, one of the group members, said it had been a challenge but they had enjoyed taking part in the event.
“We are all regular users of the skate park and wanted to do something to raise funds to buy a new ramp, “ he said.
“It was hardest in the late morning, but after that everyone picked up and although we were all tired we got to the end.”
Cameron said they had collected donations from passers-by, as well as securing sponsorship and they were also aiming to apply for grants to put towards new equipment.
“We would like to thank PC Nick Coning, Brooklyn Youth Club and Norton Town Council for their help and support,” he said.
“Although we all went home to bed straight after, we really enjoyed it and are thinking of doing something similar every year.”
