Fell-walker Alfred Wainwright honoured
8:26am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
RENOWNED fell-walker and guidebook-writer Alfred Wainwright has been honoured in a North Yorkshire seaside village.
A board commemorating the author’s work has been placed in Robin Hood’s Bay at the end of the 190-mile coast-to-coast walk he devised.
Derek Cockell, of the Wainwright Society, said he hoped it would be a focal point for walkers, as this year marks the 40th anniversary of Wainwright’s guide to the walk which starts at St Bees in Cumbria.
The footpath passes through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.
