12:14pm Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
THE unique Woodhams-Stone Collection of Norton memorabilia, amassed over half a century, goes on show at the town council chamber in Commercial Street on Saturday, September 14.
Sarah Maultby, cataloguing officer for the collection, said: “The exhibition will focus on Norton and its rich heritage and will give visitors a chance to see inside the old court house as well.
“We are holding an open day to let local people see more items from the collection that we are gradually bringing out of store.
“The town council chamber, as a significant historic building in the town, is an ideal venue and gives people the chance to have a look at a building they may never have visited as well as seeing more of the fascinating items from the Woodhams-Stone Collection.”
Veteran historians Sid Woodhams and John Stone collected thousands of items over the years, many of them artefacts of businesses and domestic life in Norton.
Coun Di Keal, one of the instigators of the event, said: “The amount of memorabilia is just amazing. The collection seems to grow and grow as people come forward with items from their attics.”
