First Birdsall village festival hailed a success

VILLAGERS in Birdsall have hailed their first-ever village festival weekend a success after hundreds of people enjoyed the events.
Organisers have said the weekend “went very well indeed” and thanked the volunteers and sponsors who made it a success.
The festival started with a preview of a flower festival celebrating “A Year in Rural Life” in St Mary’s Church and a concert.
The flower festival was put together by Kay Collier and her team, and more than 400 people took the chance to visit their work over the weekend.
Organiser Cara Willoughby said: “Their flowers blew everyone away with their imagination and skill.”
Alongside the flowers was an exhibition by York artist Malcolm Ludvigson who sold many of his paintings and donated some of the proceeds.
On the Saturday, 350 people visited a car boot sale, and a church service on Sunday evening was also well attended. On Bank Holiday Monday the festival ended with a fun horse ride.
