Groom travels to wedding in a crane
For some, it is a horse-drawn carriage, for others it is a Rolls-Royce, but for one North Yorkshire couple it was – a crane.
Groom Mark Robinson, 53, was picked up and taken to his wedding at Malton Register Office in the huge vehicle after his fianceé Liz Penfold, 44, organised the surprise.
Mark, a contracts manager for a glazing company, said: “I saw it and I just thought ‘wow’. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I never thought I would be going to my wedding in a crane, but it was just absolutely fantastic.
“I don’t think Malton register office had seen anything like that before.”
The couple’s wedding planner was the best man’s partner, Margaret Jordan, and she had help from Charlene Good.
Margaret said: “He was gobsmacked. Luckily it had stopped raining by the time we got to Malton and he was absolutely over the moon.”
Best man Chuck Richardson, who owns York Crane Hire, drove the huge vehicle to the wedding to the delight of guests.
Mark, who has worked with Chuck at York Crane Hire, said it meant a lot to have Chuck to driving him there in the huge vehicle.
Chuck added: "I have done a good few jobs with the crane but never have I used it to transport a groom to his wedding. It was just for the surprise factor"
After the ceremony the couple took a more traditional form of transport to their reception at The Agar Arms in Warthill and then later for the evening party at The Bay Horse at Murton.
The couple met on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee last year, Mark proposed to mobile hairdresser Liz on her birthday while they were away in Scotland during Easter earlier this year. Liz's son gave her away and both Mark and Liz's daughters were bridesmaids and flower girls.
The newlyweds, who live in Upper Helmsley, intend to honeymoon with Liz’s two younger daughters.
They have thanked everyone who helped make their day extra special. Liz added:"There may have been rain, but the sun was certainly shining on Mark and me."
