Timber homes may help with housing shortage

CHEAPER, alternative building methods should be used to help solve the housing shortage in Ryedale, says district council leader Coun Linda Cowling (Cons).
“We need to look at innovative ways of building homes,” she said, adding that wood could be a cheaper and effective solution.
“In an area such as Ryedale, building in natural stone is expensive but if we could look at wood construction that could make a big difference in providing homes which local people could afford,” said Coun Cowling.
She added that it is hoped to work with the Local Enterprise Partnership for North Yorkshire to explore the posibility.
Coun Cowling also wants to see a meeting of all organisations involved in rural housing, which could also embrace other rural issues.
