Thornton-le-Dale holds Scarecrow Festival
11:39am Wednesday 21st August 2013 in News
THE second annual Thornton-le-Dale Scarecrow Festival is being held this weekend – with organisers promising this year’s event will be event bigger and better.
A trail will take visitors round the village, including many of the back lanes and the pond.
Alison Skinner, one of the organisers, said a few of the villagers had thought it would be a nice way to promote Thornton-le-Dale.
She said: “It was a brilliant success last year with more entries than we ever expected. There were about 50 scarecrows which was great for the first year and this time we are expecting even more.”
Alison said they had planned the trail so it took people away from the usual village attractions.
“Visitors often don’t realise how much more there is to see in Thornton-le-Dale, so the trail takes them round the back roads and lanes,” she said.
“Last year we have so much positive feedback and comments from people about how lovely the village was.”
The Thornton-le-Dale Scarecrow Festival takes place from Saturday to Monday with trail leaflets available on the village green.
Judging will take place at noon on the Saturday by Rev Jo White of All Saints’ Church.
