Golf: Nick Salisbury sets RT Society best in round six
8:00am Wednesday 14th August 2013 in News
NICK SALISBURY tore up the course to win round six of the RT Society’s season in record fashion and rise to third in the series leaderboard.
This series, named after ex- Malton School PE teacher Roger Thomas, sees golfing friends from around the area – from Malton & Norton, Bridlington Belvedere, Sandburn Hall, Forest Park, KP Club, Scarthingwell and Hornsea golf clubs – compete once a month.
Event number six was held at Scarthingwell Golf Club, with a stiff wind greeting the 15-strong field.
Salisbury, a Whitwell-on-the-Hill evening league cricketer, whose previous best finish was sixth at Sandburn in 2012, registered 50 stableford points, a society record here.
Phil Dodsworth, second in the event leaderboard, again showed his pedigree, with faultless 40 points, to claim his fifth society second place – though he still remains without a win.
Jimmy Baxter – who plays cricket for Malton & Old Malton and football for Brooklyn, formerly Amotherby & Swinton – had earlier held the clubhouse lead with a personal best round, equating to 39 stableford points.
Matty Hood, Brooklyn manager, edged out Baxter for third, though, matching his 39 but bettering his gross. Hood also won the nearest the pin award.
Society newboy Andy Philips, another Brooklyn footballer, put in a tidy 37, matched by Oliver Salisbury.
The next event is on Sunday, September 1, at Hornsea GC.
