Norton Scouts celebrate awards success
7:00am Thursday 15th August 2013 in News
FOUR members of the Norton Explorer Scout Unit have achieved their Queen Scout and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Tom Pinder, Mark Brown, Ian Mason and Adele Hinde successfully completed a number of tasks to gain both awards.
The Queen Scout Award is the top award in Scouting and together with the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award is only achieved after the successful completion of some challenging tasks.
These include a four-day expedition, a residential trip, a period of volunteering and attaining a good level of expertise in both a skill and a physical activity.
In addition for the Queen’s Scout award – the top award in scouting – they need to have completed a faith, international and environment section and to have attended numerous scout camps.
Adele was presented with her Queen Scout award by Steve Arnold, district explorer scout coordinator, while Tom, Mark and Ian received their award from Mererid Hunt, District Commissioner for Ryedale.
All four will now attend St James Palace in London to receive their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
