Deadline extended for Ryedale rural youth volunteer prize
RYEDALE Rural Volunteer Awards have extended the nomination deadline for their new award for young people.
The Rural Young Volunteer of the Year award honours people 21 years old and under who give their time to make life better in Ryedale’s rural areas.
Sarah Lally-Marley of awards organisers Ryedale Voluntary Action said they were extending the nomination deadline until Friday, September 16. They want to encourage more people to put deserving young volunteers forward for the recognition they deserve.
Sarah said: “We know there are a lot of young people out there doing great things for their communities.”
Nominations are welcome from parents and fellow volunteers, and Sarah said it is up to those around them to make sure young volunteers’ hard work is not overlooked.
The young people do not have to volunteer for one particular organisation, she added.
“Young rural volunteers could be from young farmers or pony clubs - anyone who gives up their own time.”
The award winner will be given £250 for their organisation, and those who work for several groups can chose where the money goes.
To make a nomination or for details go to www.ryedaleva.org.uk or www.ruralyorkshire.org.uk, or phone Maggie Farey or Sarah Lally-Marley on 01653 600120.
