Helmsley may employ its own caretaker
12:22pm Wednesday 7th August 2013 in News
HELMSLEY could soon have a caretaker to keen it spic-and-span.
The town council is exploring the possibility of employing a caretaker for eight to 12 hours a week to carry out such jobs as cleaning the beck, cutting hedges, repairing and painting public seats.
Town clerk Dinah Farley said that at present the council engaged contractors to carry out the jobs but it was felt that having its own caretaker would be cheaper.
She added that the town cemetery was a key part of the council’s responsibility. “A lot of jobs are needed there,” she told the council.
“Using a professional contractor will cost more.”
The council is to seek advice from the York-based Yorkshire Local Councils Association on the implications of employing a caretaker.
