Des Reed’s family grateful for support
11:45am Wednesday 7th August 2013 in News
THE FAMILY of Gazette & Herald columnist Des Reed say they have been ‘overwhelmed’ by messages of condolence since his death last week.
Des’ youngest son, Ian, said they had received numerous cards and emails, including many from France.
“I walked round Malton last week and so many people came up to me with memories of dad,” he said.
“It has been pretty overwhelming.”
Des, who was 91, began writing for the Gazette 30 years ago, sharing his knowledge of local history and instinctive feel for the customs and area where generations of his family had lived.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 14 at 11.30am at St Mary’s Priory, Old Malton, led by Canon John Manchester, followed by York Crematorium at 1.40pm.
