Jazz festival proves to be a big hit
11:34am Wednesday 7th August 2013 in News
THE first Ryedale Jazz Festival has been hailed a big success with packed audiences at performances and concerts.
The festival was organised after the Pickering Jazz Festival folded last year after 25 years, said chief organiser, Wilson Hepplestone.
Among the artists taking part wereRon Burnett’s Mardi Gras Jazz band and Ryedale Jazz, as well as individual performers.
Pickering Memorial Hall and the parish church were full for the sessions.
“The audiences were very complimentary,” said Mr Hepplestone.
The parish church was the setting for a concert of spirituals after an invitation from the clergy.
“It was satisfying to be able to maintain the momentum of major traditional jazz in Pickering,” said Mr Hepplestone.
Plans are now being made for another festival next year, from July 20-26.
“The bands are booked and a preliminary brochure is now available,” he said.
Its programme is being expanded to include early evening sessions and an afternoon session.
Further details are available at www.ryedalejazz.com or at the jazz musicians’ regular nights each second Wednesday of the month at the Beansheaf Hotel, Kirby Misperton
