Ground work starts on Scarborough leisure village
11:28am Wednesday 7th August 2013 in News
DEVELOPERS are to start laying the ground for a multi-million-pound leisure village over the next few months.
Scarborough Borough Council’s cabinet last month recommended Wrenbridge Land Limited as the preferred bidder for the scheme in the Weaponness area of the town, which would include a 2,000-capacity football ground, an outdoor multi-use games area and a sports centre.
The council is offering Wrenbridge three parcels of land – the existing Scarborough Sports Centre in Filey Road, the former McCain Stadium site and other land at Weaponness – in return for developing the new facilities.
Surveys on issues such as ecology and site visits will be taking place over the next three months at the three sites, with boards marketing them for sale being erected at the end of this week.
The sites are being advertised as freehold development opportunities and as individual lots or as a whole.
