YORKSHIRE pride was celebrated throughout Ryedale on August 1 – Yorkshire Day.
At Hunters of Helmsley, staff hosted a special Yorkshire Day tasting event for Yorkshire produce.
Owner Chris Garnett said it went very well and customers enjoyed the chance to try out food and drinks.
It was not just traditional Yorkshire puddings and curd tarts on offer – customers could taste Womersley Vinegar from South Yorkshire, Barncliff Brie from Huddersfield and Yorkshire’s Sunset – a rosé wine from Ryedale’s own vineyard.
In Malton, a similar event was going on at the Talbot Hotel.
A special Yorkshire Day food festival featured seafood, meat, fruit, preserves, liquors from all across the district.
Yorkshire Day was first celebrated in 1975, and marks the anniversary of The Battle of Minden, and was already celebrated by the Light Infantry, successors to the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, as Minden Day.
