BBC stars are in Ryedale this week filming for a new costume drama on location at Castle Howard.

Production of Death Comes to Pemberley - a sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice - has begun at the stately home supported by a grant from Screen Yorkshire.

Crime writer Baroness PD James' novel tells the story of Elizabeth and Darcy, five years into their marriage. It has been adapted for TV by Calendar Girls writer Juliette Towhidi.

Anna Maxwell Martin stars as Elizabeth, Matthew Rhys as Darcy and Matthew Goode - who also starred in the 2008 TV version of Brideshead Revisited filmed as Castle Howard - as Wickham.

David Thompson, producer for Origin Pictures, the company behind the production, said: "We're delighted to be filming this witty, original and beautifully imagined book from Britain's best loved crime writer - murder and Jane Austen, a delicious combination! This will be a very unexpected and audacious period drama."

Filming will take place at Castle Howard until July 12. Access to some areas of the house will be restricted on some days, but reduced admission charges will be in place. The grounds will be open for visitors as normal.
