THE annual show staged by Pickering Musical Society as part of the town’s Wartime Weekend in October, is threatened with cancellation because it has no musical director or pianist.

Leader of the show, Linda Tester, said: “Without these vital people, the show is in grave danger of having to be cancelled.

“We have people from all parts of the country who come to see our production every year as well as many locals. We don’t want to disappoint them as the show is a big part of their stay in Pickering.”

The show, staged for 14 years, always has a wartime theme. It evokes the wartime era in songs, dances and sketches,” said Linda. “It has 40 songs, many of them well known sing-a-longs.”

Rehearsals for this year’s production, which runs from October 9-13, start on July 1, with rehearsal nights being held on Mondays and Thursdays at 7.30 pm.

As well as being a key part of the Pickering Wartime Weekend, the show provides the society with a large part of its income to keep its Kirk Theatre running.

“To lose that income if the show is cancelled, will be a significant blow to the society,” said Linda.

Anyone able to help the society’s plight in its bid to find a musical director and pianist, is asked to phone 01751 474833.

“We are a friendly group, and always welcome new members,” added Linda.
