A PUBLIC inquiry is to be held in September following an appeal by Gladman Developments over its plans for a development in Kirkbymoorside.

The firm has appealed over delays by Ryedale District Council in coming to a decision about its plans to build 210 homes and 50 apartments for the elderly at Westfields.

Gladman has subsequently submitted a second proposal for the development but the inquiry into its first application will still go ahead.

The proposals have caused concern and opposition among residents and Kirkbymoorside Town Council who feel it is too big and would be built on prime agricultural land.

Planning officials at the district council say they would have recommended refusal because of a lack of affordable housing in the scheme.

There is also concern that it would also affect the county primary school’s ability to expand.
