Ryedale flood teams stand down after river levels fall
9:46am Friday 22nd March 2013 in News
TEAMS checking rising river and water levels in Ryedale have been stood down this morning.
The area's Silver Command team - including North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire County Council, Ryedale District Council, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency - took the decision after a phone conference, saying there had been a "significant" drop in levels.
The River Derwent in Malton was at 2.25m this morning and groundwater levels in Broughton were measured at 20.09m.
"As river and groundwater levels have fallen and the forecast is for only minimal rainfall over the weekend, Silver Command has agreed to stand down," said Glyn Payne, North Yorkshire Police's Scarborough and Ryedale Safer Neighbourhood Commander.
