Diversions as roads get winter repairs

HIGHWAYS teams are working to repair winter damage along the B1257 from Hovingham to Malton.

Patching, pot-hole filling and some resurfacing is taking place until Sunday, March 31 to improve the road condition and to prepare it for a complete surface dressing later in the year.

The stretch between Slingsby, Barton-le-Street and Appleton-le-Street is currently closed 6pm-midnight. Signed diversions are in place and that section is due to be completed tomorrow.

Work began on Monday on the stretch through Amotherby, Swinton, Broughton to Malton with temporary traffic signals in place.

And from next Monday, work will begin on the stretch from Hovingham through Fryton to Slingsby with temporary traffic signals in place.

Information boards will be displayed along the route in advance of each start date so motorists are forewarned and can allow for additional journey times. Vehicular access to properties will be maintained whenever possible.

County Coun Clare Wood said: “After so much extreme weather, this is much-needed work to keep this road, which links so many of our villages to Malton, in a sound state of repair.”

This road has been a death trap for the last 12 months. The current condition of the road has nothing to do with winter weather at all. How this road passes health and safety regulations I will never know. I have sent many emails asking for the road to be marked better as the current cats eye's are a complete joke. White lines on the outside of roads would be a good idea. Please lets make this road safer for all our users as we all pay taxes.
