Residents warned of benefit changes

RESIDENTS in a North Yorkshire district have been warned they will see changes to the benefits they receive next month.

Ryedale District Council said some council tax bills would have “significant differences” in them, and advised residents to contact the authority for advice.

Council tax benefit has been replaced by a “localised support” approach, which will mean working-age applicants only being entitled to a reduction of up to 91.5 per cent on their council tax. Pensioners are not affected.

From April, new rules on the number of bedrooms housing benefit will pay for will be introduced, while dates for housing benefit entitlements will also change. Information is available at ryedale.gov.uk and citizensadvice.org.uk
