Urgent appeal following sexual assault on teenager

POLICE are searching for this man following a sexual assault on a teenager in North Yorkshire.

Gheorghe Mighali, 27, of no fixed address, is wanted by police to assist the investigation into the attack in the Stakesby Road and Station Avenue area of Whitby between 9pm and 10pm on Saturday.

The victim, who is in her mid-teens, was approached and sexually assaulted by an unknown man.

Mr Mighali, a Romanian national, was in the Whitby area on or around March 5. He was seen in Middlesbrough on March 7, in Hartlepool on March 8 and Newcastle on Tuesday.

Det Chf Insp Andrea Kell said: “I am appealing for people to contact the police if they have seen Gheorghe Mighali or a man matching his description.

“He was last seen in Newcastle on Tuesday, March 12, but it is possible that he could be using public transport to visit any part of the country.

“If you can help us trace him, please contact the police as soon as possible.”
