Hospital care is praised in report

INSPECTORS have praised the running of York and Scarborough hospitals.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) made unannounced visits to the maternity and paediatric services at York Hospital, including the special care baby unit, and visited two day-case wards and the escalation ward at Scarborough Hospital.

The CQC was looking at patient experience and feedback, and also spoke to staff, patients and their relatives.

Staff at York Hospital were described as “compassionate and caring”, and “went the extra mile” for patients’ wellbeing.

The CQC reported that at Scarborough Hospital “everyone we spoke with made positive comments about the staff attending to them, and about their experiences whilst in hospital”.

Libby McManus, chief nurse for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I am delighted that we were found to be meeting these essential standards.”
