15th century jewellery found in Ryedale field

A PIECE of jewellery from the 15th century, found in a field in Ryedale, has been declared treasure trove.

The circular silver gilt mounting, measuring 24mm across, depicts the Madonna and Child. It was found by a treasure hunter with a metal detector. At the inquest last week, deputy North Yorkshire East coroner John Broadbridge said the location was not being revealed on the advice of archaeological experts.

It is expected the Yorkshire Museum Trust will be given the first chance to buy it.

Are you saying a treasure hunter is not allowed to use a metal detector?

Where is this rule, one must make sure that should I go out hunting for treasure - that I am not seen using the improper equipment.

Also, is there a dress and beard wearing code?

Wouldn't want to have people of greater knowledge kicking off online, the ripples could be unimaginable.

This is afterall of the uppermost importance.
