STUDENTS from The Academy in Norton are through to the national finals of a hair and beauty competition.

The Academy, which also has a training centre in Scarborough, won seven awards in the regional stage of the competition, including a clean sweep in hairdressing taking first, second and third.

The national finals take place in Blackpool later this month.

Director Lindsay Burr said: “This is a record year for The Academy. We will take nine students through to the finals in additional categories including Avante Garde. Well done to all those who took part.”

Winning students from The Academy were:

• First Year Hairdressing, blow dry: First – Phillippa Wright, Hair by Helena, Scarborough; second – Amber Watkinson, Something for the Weekend Sir?, Pickering; and third – Danielle Postlethwaite, Goodys

• Ladies cut and blow dry: Second – Natasha White, Hair by Helen, Scarborough

• Face painting: Third – Shannon Ellis, full-time beauty student, Scarborough

• Make-up: First – Lois Jones, full-time beauty student, Scarborough; second – Tarah Wright, full-time beauty student, Norton.
