Lifeline sought for Filey Pool

A NORTH Yorkshire MP has said every avenue of funding must be explored if a town’s swimming pool is to stay open.

Filey Pool is threatened with closure due to the cost of operating it, and Thirsk and Malton MP Anne McIntosh said possible sources of funding should be looked at if this is to be avoided.

She said Sport England’s legacy programme had made £65 million available for smaller sporting facilities and a further £30 million for larger projects, while its improvement fund had allocated £45 million for medium-sized initiatives.

She said: “We need to take advantage of the funding available to ensure facilities such as Filey Pool remain open and usable by all members of the community.”
