THE company which owns the Malton bacon factory has unveiled its new logo.
Last month, a new name for the site, which is based on the Norton Grove Industrial Estate and employs about 1,600 people, was announced following a management buy-out from previous owner, VION.
The establishment of Karro Food Group headquarters has brought the control of one of Britain’s biggest pork producers to Yorkshire.
Seamus Carr, former managing director of VION’s pork business unit, who led the buy-out backed by UK private equity firm, Endless, said the name was derived from “Caro” the Latin translation for the word meat and was reflective of the company’s desire to be a high quality British pork producer with the customer at the focus. The idea behind the logo and branding itself is that it is symbolic of a butcher’s apron.
Mr Carr said: “With a turnover of more than £500 million, employing over 3,000 people across the UK and a focus on British pork, it is an exciting time for the new business.
“Karro has operations across the UK with nine sites in England, Scotland and Northern and southern Ireland. It’s reputation for high welfare pork was forged through its commitment to breeding its own pigs at its farm in Brydock, Scotland, as well as sourcing from farmers local to its operations.”
Dutch parent company VION NV announced in December it was selling its UK food operations, which employ 13,000 people at 38 sites, to focus on its business in the Netherlands and Germany.
Charles Pascall, human resources director for the Karro Food Group Ltd, said: “The starting of a new business is a very exciting time for all of us. With this new start, it is great to have such a fresh and vibrant new logo.
“The logo is representative of who we are and what we are about. The blue and white stripes represent the butcher’s apron and it is our employees’ skills, knowledge and heritage as ‘butchers’ producing a quality product, from where our strengths are founded.”
