A NORTON charity is hoping to spruce up its café with help from the local community.

Next Steps supports people with mental health problems across Ryedale by providing a drop-in centre, activities and outreach groups in Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside and Pickering.

Based in Church Street, the centre also runs a café which is open to the public and raises funds for the charity’s work.

Volunteer co-ordinator Lisa Taylor said they wanted to update the café but as they are a charity, funding is restricted.

“We are constantly trying to raise money but it is never enough and we would really like to spruce up the café,” she said.

“We would like to have matching table and chairs and also new crockery that matches as well.”

Lisa said they are planning a number of fundraisers including a cake stall and appealed to any businesses that were having a clear-out of furniture to get in touch.

“The support we have received from the local community had been amazing,” she said.

“Our café is well-used by the local community so it would be lovely to bring it up-to-date and give it a co-ordinated look.”
