Spate of burglaries leads to police warning
9:56am Monday 25th February 2013 in News
RESIDENTS in North Yorkshire have been urged to be vigilant following a spate of burglaries around the region.
Homes in Hambleton, Malton and York were targeted in the burglaries, and two Northallerton men aged 36 and 37 were arrested in connection with a break-in at a veterinary surgery in Northallerton.
The 36-year-old man was also arrested in connection with a burglary at a flat in Bank Head Road in the town. He was given police bail for that offence, to allow for further inquiries to be carried out.
In separate incidents, five break-ins have been reported over the last two days, one in Potto near Stokesley, one in Tockwith, two in York and one in Wintringhan near Malton.
A police spokesman said cash and jewellery were stolen, but in York, the burglars failed to gain entry.
Overnight on February 21, a house in Sittenham was broken into and power tools stolen from inside including a power saw, a stihl saw and a drill.
