Speed quizzes held in Malton pub

Oliver Salisbury who will be running speed quizzes in Malton
A NEW type of pub quiz has been introduced at a bar in Malton.
Speed quizzing has been run by Oliver Salisbury fortnightly at The Yard in Market Place since November.
Oliver, who is from Malton, said the quizzes had been run nationally, and more locally in York, Leeds and Harrogate, for a number of years, and he is now trying to reach a wider audience in the Ryedale area.
“It is a completely new and revolutionary type of quiz where each team uses a smartphone, iPod or iPad which acts as a buzzer throughout the quiz and connects to the host’s laptop via Wi-Fi,” he said.
“There are five different rounds and it truly is great fun. It’s also impossible to cheat, therefore meaning that the real winners take home the prizes.”
Oliver said the quizzes are proving popular and he is now trying to reach a wider audience locally.
“It’s a kind of quiz show-style game with rounds including fastest finger and music clips. A sound clip is associated to each team’s buzzer, which plays when a question is answered,” he said.
Oliver said he also hoped to start up a quiz league.
“I can also do quizzes for specific events such as company parties, events or other social events,” he said.
“It really is something different with not a pen and paper in sight – there really is no other quiz like it.”
The next speed quiz will be held at The Yard on Sunday at 7.30pm. Entry is £1.50 per person.
