Talents Fine Arts gallery in Malton to close

A MALTON art gallery is to close at the beginning of next month.

Talents Fine Arts in Market Place was established more than 20 years ago, with the present owners taking over in July 2008.

John Gill, from the gallery, said like many other small businesses they had suffered from the effects of the economic climate.

“Regrettably, dwindling trade and other personal commitments have led the owners to make the difficult decision to give up the gallery and efforts to find someone else to take it on have proved unsuccessful,” he said.

“The owners and staff of Talents wish to take this opportunity to thank all their customers and the many artists who have exhibited their work in the gallery for their continued support over the years.”

Meanwhile, a Kirkbymoorside book shop is to close at the end of the month.

The Summit book shop has been run by Andrew Cooper and his wife, Tersia, for two years.

Mr Cooper said the couple were now retiring to South Africa from where they originally came and members of their family still live.

“The coffee shop and bakery have been sold but unfortunately not the book shop,” he said.

“We will be sad to go as we have made lots of friends here.”
