Ryedale returns to Roman days for half term

ROMAN Ryedale will be brought to life at Malton and Norton libraries during half-term week.

The Museums in the Community Group, a team from the former Malton Museum, will be laying on free events at both libraries.

Families will be given the chance to dress like a Roman, find out about the life of a soldier and look at objects from the time.

They will also have the opportunity to practice being an archaeologist by sifting through Roman finds and have fun by playing ancient games. A selection of books about Roman times will also be available to borrow.

County Coun Chris Metcalfe, North Yorkshire County Council’s executive member for libraries, said: “Where better for families to explore the history and culture of their locality than at the library? This is a wonderful opportunity for families to learn about the Romans in their area in a way that is lively and interesting for all ages.”

The events take place at Malton Library on Tuesday, February 19, 10am-noon, and Norton Library on Thursday, February 21, 10am-noon.
