Traffic and noise fears over Kirkbymoorside shop plan

TOWN councillors have urged Ryedale District Council to investigate concerns about a scheme to build a supermarket on the site of Ryedale Garages premises at Kirkbymoorside.

They said while shoppers will be able to get to the new shop without having to cross the A170, there are worries about the impact of parking and loading on local traffic.

Councillors also said there was the possibility of an increase in noise and air pollution resulting from increased congestion, and residents of Duncombe Terrace would be affected by the movement of vehicles close to their homes, and be disturbed by noise and disturbance of deliveries.

They also highlighted the proximity of the entrance to the store and the loading bay to the roundabout at the junction of Piercy End, the A170 and Ings Lane.

Ryedale District Council is due to make a decision on the scheme in the next few weeks.

• Changes are to be sought to the snow clearance priority list in Kirkbymoorside.

Town councillors want the county highway authority to put the A170 footpath into the priority one category for clearance.

• Kirkbymoorside Golf Club is to be asked to reinstate the speed bumps and pillars in Manor Vale Road.

•  The council has agreed a precept for the coming financial year of £68,505.

•  Members agreed to spend £5,000 on improvements to the town’s skatepark.
