RYEDALE MP Anne McIntosh has opened a new army cadet detachment in North Yorkshire.

The new modular building is in the grounds of Thirsk School and Sixth Form and replaces the cadet detachment’s previous premises in the centre of the market town.

Thanks to a partnership between Thirsk School and Sixth Form and the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association based in York, which manages the Army Cadet Force estate across the region, the new detachment now has plenty of space for all the cadets’ training requirements with the additional benefit of being on the premises of the school which many of the cadets at the unit attend during the day.

Anne McIntosh, MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey, said: “I am honoured to open the new Army Cadet Force Unit at Thirsk School.

The new facilities will ensure that hundreds of children benefit from the invaluable lessons that are learnt from being a cadet.”

The detachment meets at Thirsk School on Tuesdays or Thursdays, 7pm-9pm. Phone 01904 490529 to find out more.

What a splendid idea!

Teaching children how to act like Soldiers will be a real benefit to themselves and society as a whole.

With some sound advice and gentle coaxing they may well aspire to serve their country overseas.

A career brimming with military honours, bravery, and service to Queen and country surely awaits.
