Former moors pub landlady Ida Elizabeth Moore has died

A FORMER landlady of the Moors Inn at Appleton-le-Moors has died.

Ida Elizabeth Moore ran the pub with her husband, Don, for more than 20 years.

The couple, who originated from the Hull area, were former farmers and decided to move into the pub trade when their son Chas took over the Buck Inn at Wrelton.

Mrs Moore’s daughter-in-law, Kate, said she changed the name of the pub from the Oddfellow Arms to the Moors Inn. “Ida felt it was more in-keeping with the area as it was on the moors and their name was Moore,” she said.

Over the years the couple had raised money for the village church and St Catherine’s Hospice. Mrs Moore retired 12 years ago and went to live near her son in Wrelton.

She leaves a son and daughter-in-law, three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Her funeral will be at Christ Church, Appleton-le-Moors, next Thursday at noon.
