Volunteers needed to take walking project forward

VOLUNTEERS who enjoy the great outdoors and socialising with others are needed to support a Eco Minds-funded project.

Green Step, which is based at Next Steps in Norton, offers a weekly walking group which aims to encourage people to get fitter, reduce health risks, meet others and feel better.

The walks take place each Friday at 10am, meeting at Next Steps and are local, short walks, suitable for all abilities.

A longer fortnightly walk for anyone willing to be challenged will also be held on Mondays, also at 10am.

Green Step was kicked off by a well-attended 10-mile sponsored walk funded by My Possible Self last September and the group has set a challenge to walk the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’ Groats – so far the accumulated miles have achieved Land’s End to Bristol.

Walk leader Bridget Robinson-Clark said they were now looking for volunteers to become a walking buddy. She said training and support would be given to all volunteer buddies.

If you would like any more information about joining the walk as a member or becoming a volunteer, phone Bridget or Mike at Next Steps on 01653 690854 or email post@nextsryedale.co.uk
