£374,000 windfall for North Yorkshire County Council

CUTS in Government funding for North Yorkshire County Council have eased slightly with news that the authority is to get an extra £374,000.

The move follows a revolt by shire Tories across the country against “grossly unfair” reductions.

District councils in the county will also receive small top-ups, to “reflect the costs of those services which can be more expensive in highly rural areas”.

About 120 councils nationwide threatened to bring a judicial review against the proposed funding settlement, announced in December, under which rural councils were due to receive 3.81 per cent less from central government – compared with cuts of 2.05 per cent for urban councils.

How about spending this windfall money, on filling in potholes on the county's roads? The state of more and more roads, should be of great concern to those officials and elected councillors who are responsible for their proper upkeep and maintenance.
