PUBS and restaurants across Ryedale have helped raise more than £1,800 for a local charity by serving up bangers and mash.

Ryedale Special Families, which is based in Old Malton, decided to give the annual Enormous Lunch fundraiser a different look, linking as many catering venues as possible.

The week-long event, held in December, saw 22 pubs, restaurants and hotels offering the special menu in return for a £1 donation to Ryedale Special Families.

Rob Davies, funding co-ordinator for Ryedale Special Families, said they had received a fantastic response to the idea from venues.

“In addition, one of our trustees, Jane de Wend Fenton organised her own version of the event at Ebberston Hall and the week culminated with a fundraising lunch at The Talbot Hotel, cooked and served up by none other than celebrity chef James Martin,” he said.

“In total, just over £1,800 was raised and a special thanks is given to everyone who took part.

Hopefully, the idea is one which can be repeated and made even more ‘enormous’ later this year.”
