RECORD numbers have signed up for the annual Castle Howard Triathlon, but places are still available.
The event, on Sunday, July 21, is to feature on Channel 4. It will include races for juniors, sprinters and middle-distance participants.
Last year, more than 1,000 people took part, and many raised money for charities, including York Against Cancer, and Help For Heroes. More are expected to take part this year thanks to the influence of last year’s Olympics.
Brian Adcock, the race director, said there had been huge interest in the children’s event.
Mr Adcock said: “The Olympic triathlon had a dramatic effect on our registration figures with confirmations surging the weekend after the event. We could see the Olympic legacy take immediate effect with double the amount as last year signing up for our events, many claiming it testament to London 2012. It would be wonderful to think that we could harvest the next Brownlees in their home region.”
Last year saw the York Triathlon Club stage its club championship at the Castle Howard event.
