North Yorkshire has joint lowest crime figures in country

NORTH Yorkshire has the joint-lowest crime rate in England, new figures have shown, and crime has fallen by nine per cent in the last year.

A report from the Office of National Statistics showed 36,791 crimes were recorded in the region in the year ending September 2012, 3,500 fewer than the previous year.

The figures also showed violent and sexual offences had been reduced by eight and seven per cent respectively, and robbery had fallen by 32 per cent.

Public perception had also improved, with 65 per cent of people surveyed agreeing police and local councils were dealing with issues, up from 56.7 per cent and above the national average of 60 per cent.

North Yorkshire’s temporary Chief Constable, Tim Madgwick, called the figures very satisfying.

Julia Mulligan, Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, said: “We know that being safe is only one side of the coin. The other is feeling safe.

“We will be more responsive, more visible and more accessible, so that our communities feel confident that we will always be there to protect them from harm.”

Sexual offences down 7% year ending September 2012 compared to year ending September 2011. Savile died October 2011. Must have been a one man crime wave.

Of course crime figures are down.
When a police officer tells you
"We want to keep the" (2 scroats that trashed my house) "Out of the justice system"
You know that you cannot rely on the police.
I recommend the use of a baseball bat at all times as there is no alternative.

Just make sure the first swipe counts as this counts as self defence. Further swipes are considered assault.
I would go for the knee caps, that hurts like hell and they"ll never walk again.

Thanks Triker. Now would you recommend the overhand swing or the underhand ?
One handed or 2 ?

There is little doubt that society has and is changing and criminal activity is not altogether cast in the same manner as it was say, 10-15-20 years ago. That is not to say that we are rid of crime but the criminal justice system is only a part of a deterrence against crime and the move away from "traditional" crime definitions and activities. The surveillance society, advances in scientific investigation(DNA profiling etc), high-tech police mobile intelligence systems and a vast widening of their exchanges of intelligence (ANPR etc) and yes, the public's tendency not to report some matters that a generation or less ago, they would have done so, have all added to this diminishment. Society's move towards the high-tech revolution and "addiction" to the internet is another major reason and the policing of said internet, should have far more resources applied to it because of the vast amount of criminal activity that it contains. But, the police like to bandy about raw data and statistics - it's their raison d'etre/measuring stick to their local responsibilities, albeit these can be adjusted and moulded - but there are many more contemporary ingredients to be examined and counted into this equation!

I'm sure they claim crimes from lefties, illegal immigrants and single mothers are excluded. Don't know what's worse, the used toilet paper masquerading as a newspaper or the neo nazi morons who believe what they read in it.

A study of crime trends in England and Wales suggests the fall in offences recorded by police may have been exaggerated.
The Office for National Statistics said the "rate of reduction" in recorded crime "may overstate" the decrease.

The national papers and BBC News are merely quoting the Office for National Statistics, moron yourself!

Unlike the Press who can only regurgitate without question North Yorks Police propaganda.

The figures would be turned on their heads if the cops watched what the local hunts are up to.

And Yorkshire has the worst figures for raptor persecution.

If anyone believes ANY data which the police serves out is in cloud cuckoo land.
Sadly for all over us the Yorkshire Police are third-rate when it comes to serving the public.

I'd have liked it if the article was more clear on whether we have the fewest crimes, or the lowest number of crimes per population/property.

We are fairly sparsely populated which will help in many ways e.g close knit communities spotting strangers. The local bobbies are a mixed bag but some are pretty feckless. Bit like our schools do pretty well because of the catchment, not the facilities which are superior in cities and large conurbations.

We don't attract big business much and we don't attract ganglords and drug rings either much I guess.

It's a mixed bag. We get a quiet life which is great if you want it. Maybe we have about the right population density for a wholesome life.

Many of the young who might brawl just move away instead in search of better opportunities.

NYP have just issued a CRD to a youth who set light to another youth in Clifton, another government idea to hide real serious crimes like this from the stats radar. How can a CRD be issued for setting another person alight? A letter of apology is this really a suitable resolution ?
