THEY are more used to the sun-baked plains of Africa than a North Yorkshire winter, but the two latest arrivals at Flamingo Land Zoo are braving the sub-zero temperatures.
Velvet the zebra earned his stripes yesterday when he ventured from the warmth of his shed to play in the snow for the first time since he was born two weeks ago.
Brad the giraffe, who was born the day after Velvet, wore a fetching red scarf to keep the cold away from his long neck.
Zoo manager Ross Snipp said: “We called the zebra Velvet because his dad’s called Guinness and we named Brad after Bradford City because of their historic league cup run. It’s not the best time of year to be born but we can’t always help these kind of things.”
