PUPILS at Ryedale School are benefiting from a new minibus.
The 17-seater has been provided by the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) which has agreed to cover the cost of the lease contract.
Helen Handley, assistant headteacher and PTA committee member, said the school was very grateful for the support of the PTA.
“The vast majority of staff and pupils will benefit from this valuable resource,” she added.
“It is used to transport pupils to performing arts events such as theatre trips and choir and band performances.
“Also, due to the large capacity and the fact we can remove rear seats for storage, we will be able to take pupils to sporting enrichment activities such as regular team fixtures and outward bound sessions such as orienteering.”
Mrs Handley said the minibus also provided an essential support to Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.
“Many departments use the minibus to take pupils on trips, educational visits, conferences, challenge events and other important activities,” she said.
“Local primary schools and community groups have also benefited from its use and the minibus has a secure space for a wheelchair passenger and a portable wheelchair ramp.”
The PTA is now looking for new ways to raise funds, including an event to be held on May 8 involving a raffle and auction, and a whole school sponsored event on June 12.
PTA chairman Fiona McBeath said any support or further fundraising ideas would also be gratefully received “We would like to thank those who have already donated money and helped with fundraising efforts, including those who have registered on www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ryedaleschool, a site which gives the PTA money when people shop online,” she said.
“The PTA committee would like to ask any parents and businesses to contact school if they would like to offer help towards the on-going cost of the minibus, such as sponsorship or donating raffle prizes or items for the auction.”
