New cycle track for Sutton Bank
11:53am Wednesday 23rd January 2013 in News
A 4.5KM cycle track is to be developed at Sutton Bank.
The North York Moors National Park Authority has been given approval for the track which will use existing bridleways as well as a newly-created off-road trail.
It will run through a softwood plantation on forest management tracks, and an area currently covered with heather, crowberry and grass, said senior planning officer Mark Hill.
The surface material of the track will be limestone from Newbridge Quarry, Pickering, he added.
It is being created in connection with a bike hire facility based at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre.
“The trail will make good use of the local plantations and provide visitors with an additional attraction and activity,” said Mr Hill.
“It will also provide an opportunity for younger visitors to enjoy the national park.”
