HAIR and beauty students took part in an annual competition organised by The Academy in Norton.

Students from Ryedale, Scarborough and Whitby competed in a number of categories, including Avant Garde make-up, nail art, 1960s make-up, face painting, men’s cut and finish, first-year blow-dry, team bridal and ladies evening style.

In recent years, The Academy has been successful in getting students into the regional heats and national finals of a country-wide competition in Blackpool, including winning the Student of the Year Trophy.

Students taking part were from a range of NVQ courses including barbering, nail services, beauty therapy and hairdressing.

Some are full-time students at The Academy and some are apprentices at local salons who go to The Academy one day per week to gain their qualification.

Lindsay Burr, Academy director, said: “Well done to all students who took part in The Academy competitions.

“Thanks to all tutors and salon owners who work closely with the students to perfect their skills.

“I am proud of all our students who will be representing The Academy at the regional heats next month.”
