New head teacher for Pickering Junior School New head teacher for Pickering Junior School

A NEW headteacher has joined Pickering Junior School.

Chris Pearce, who was previously at Headland’s School in Haxby, said his role was to build on work already made to lift Pickering Juniors out of special measures.

The school was judged ‘inadequate’ by Ofsted inspectors last year after concerns were raised over the standard of education being delivered and the capacity of managers to secure the necessary improvements Mr Pearce said: “The school has already made strides towards moving out of special measures. My role is to now build on these successes by accelerating pupil progress through excellent classroom teaching and a rich and rewarding curriculum.”

He added that key to ensuring their forward momentum was also the development of parental links through a structured Parents’ Forum and the involvement of the parents more widely in the life of the school.

“Since taking up the post at the start of January, I have been made to feel incredibly welcome by all children, staff and governors at the school and the team at the local authority,” Mr Pearce said.

“While we have much to achieve in a very short space of time, I look forward to celebrating our progress and achievements in the near future.”
