PICKERING Musical Society is appealing for performers and volunteers for its next production, after it was forced to cancel its spring show.

An emergency meeting was held at the end of last year after they were unable to put together a cast for the planned production of ‘Hello Dolly’ at the Kirk Theatre.

Theatre manager Luke Arnold said ideas were put forward including suggestions for a new show.

“Out of initial disappointment has come an exciting idea for a spring show which will see Pickering have a ‘Pathway to Broadway’ – a musical extravaganza featuring music, song and dance from everyone’s favourite musical shows,” he said.

The first rehearsal date was on Monday, with the show running from June 5-8.

Luke said he wanted local people to come along and register their interest, support and willingness to help.

“We don’t just need volunteer performers but also help front of house, backstage, set constructors, electricians and joiners.

“It is an endless list and if you can spare some time, no matter how little, we can find a job for you,” he said.

“Local support is crucial to keep the theatre going from strength to strength and avoid closure. It’s a great asset to the town which needs the town’s support. Act now and join us on the Pathway to Broadway.”
