Pilates for Blokes class started

Karl Avison and instructor Wendy Harding promote the Pilates for Blokes course at the Cedarbarn Farm Shop, Pickering
THIS new year sees the start of a new fitness class – aimed solely at men.
Fitness instructor Wendy Harding decided to introduce Pilates for Blokes following the popularity of her regular sessions at the Cedarbarn farm shop in Pickering.
“A few men do come along to the classes, including Cedarbarn owner and farmer Karl Avison,” said Wendy.
“As part of his job he does a lot of physical work and he always says how much better he feels after taking part in a class.”
Wendy said Pilates had been developed by German Joseph Pilates while he was a prisoner of war.
“The exercises were aimed at injured and sick soldiers to help rehabilitate and strengthen their bodies back to health,” she said.
“ Pilates-based exercises are now commonly used by physios and sportsmen, helping performance and promoting strong, healthy bodies.”
Wendy said the men’s class would focus on core, strength and flexibility exercises for a stronger back, better joint mobility and body balance, and will include standing and lying exercises.
Pilates for Blokes is tonight (Wednesday) at 6.30pm and will continue as a six week course costing £25.
To book a place, phone Wendy on 01751 472098, email her at wendyharding@hotmail.co.uk or phone Cedarbarn on 01751 475614.
