RYEDALE has seen a fall in crime in the past year, especially violence and anti-social behaviour, but it is vital that the street security camera system is retained.
The district’s police commander, Inspector Andy Everitt told Pickering Town Council that while the town had seen 37 fewer crimes in the past year, there had been nine more burglaries with sheds, garages and outbuildings being targeted.
Insp Everitt believes the CCTV cameras are still effective in combatting crime in Malton, Norton and Pickering, adding: “They offer assurances to the public.”
Ryedale District Council is expected to continue funding the CCTV system in the short term with it transferring to the town authorities at a future date.
